Americans in the Lot, an association under French
law, (une association loi de 1901) was founded
in 2010 by Susanna Stevens and Dana Facaros, two
US nationals living locally. It aims to promote Franco-American relations by carrying out bicultural projects.
some funding assistance from the OSS Society for its Cuzance plaque project. (See
Commemorating OSS Group Emily
and the Cuzance maquis)
It is open to all Americans living in the departement.
Its first project for which the American Embassy in Paris
kindly provided funds, was to translate the mission
statement of OG Emily into French for the Museum
of Resistance and Deportation in Cahors, realizing
the importance of preserving for future generations
this local heritage that will otherwise be lost.
With this in mind it co-ordinated efforts to
establish a lasting memorial to the collaborative
efforts of the Americans and French in the World
War II fight against the occupying forces.
One particular act of sabotage (the
blowing up of the Viaduc de La Motte near
Souillac) seemed the perfect choice.
